Mwnt by Jezhawk
Mwnt
Since moving to West Wales, I've been exploring the local area and loving the stunning landscape and scenery here. I never thought I would be any good at landscape art or even have much of an interest in creating art like this. But after starting with Pentre Ifan I find I'm able to bring my own unique flare to this subject matter, bring in my love of colour, pattern and sparkles; drawing from a lifetime of looking across vast landscapes of mountains, moors and vales.
Unfortunately the scanning of this piece doesn't quite capture the layers and layers of coloured pencil I use in this technique which as a result, changes quite remarkably depending on how the light catches it.

Pentre Ifan by Jezhawk
Pentre Ifan
I started this piece with only a loose idea of what I wanted to create. I'm not an experienced landscape artist at all, but I wanted to somehow use the style I've been developing with the Totems and my love of colour and bring it into a more traditional landscape piece.
Pentre Ifan is a local ancient burial chamber and is the largest and best preserved neolithic dolmen in Wales.
The original is created on black Strathmore Artagain paper with Prismacolor pencils and embellished with metallic acrylics.

Crab Totem by Jezhawk
Crab Totem
17th in the Totem Series
Crab Totem was the first Totem that I didn't feel a particular affinity to or connection to - and so it has been an interesting challenge to create. I've always had a bit of a fear of crabs, I'm not much of a fan with anything with 8 legs really! But doing the research for this piece really showed me the beauty of these often tiny, often massive creatures. Now I live in a coastal location I see a lot more of them on the beaches and so it was time to create the Crab Totem!

Media: 12" x 18" Strathmore paper, Prismacolor pencils and acrylic paints
18th in the Totem Series
"The dolphin spirit animal represents harmony and balance. Dolphins are both highly intelligent and closely in tune with their instincts, striking a balance between the two states. Dolphins are also a symbol of protection and of resurrection. Their playful nature is a reminder that everyone needs to approach life with humor and joy. People who identify with the dolphin totem are usually peaceful and gentle, but with a deep inner strength." (Source: Spiritanimal.info)

Winter King (2016) by Jezhawk
Winter King (2016)

It was time to revisit an old friend. Winter King was created originally in 2008 for a college assignment. I revisited and recreated this piece in 2013 applying new skills to it. Now it’s 2016 and Winter King’s message is stronger than ever – the Polar Bear’s demise will mean the demise of us all.

Once again I’m revising this piece, increasing its size and detailing, again bringing new skills to this piece. If only I could rejuvenate the sea ice in the way I can rejuvenate this piece.
