I am totally in love with the book I'm reading at the moment, Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin. This is the horse from the book named Athansor, who I just couldn't help but illustrate he's described so beautifully.

I discovered this book from viewing this piece [link] and after about 2 years I actually happened to remember the book and author whilst I was in a book store, whilst it was in stock. Sold! I'm about half way through, but I'll quite happily say that I've never read anything so spellbinding and beautifully written as this.

Anyway, this is - as usual, a pencil sketch coloured in photoshop.

Fantastic! I started reading Winter's Tale only a few months ago, and it's been slow going because I want to savor every word, but this is pretty much exactly as I imagine Athansor would look, particularly his eyes - so sad and tender and deep. I particularly love the stars and the 'cloud wall' in this, too!

thank you, Winter's Tale is probably my most favourite read, not so much for the story line but for the craftmanship of the words. I'm glad you think my Athansor is a good representation!
I thought the story was quite wonderful as well. :) But I also love how it's such an unabashed love poem to the city of my birth.

thank you
This is absolutely stunning. Winter's Tale is my favorite book EVER EVER EVER. Are you planning on illustrating any more scenes or characters from it?

thank you! I love that book too, I've never read anything like it. I'd like to illustrate some more scenes from it - perhaps Lake of the Coheeries and/or Athansor pulling the sled across the lake :D One of these days!
This is sooo beautiful!... :faint:

Ooh, I really like this one, it looks great :) I like how you can still clearly see the pencil lines, it really gives it a nice effect
