So I was feeling totally miserable today (partly due to going through a complete lack of inspiration phase with my art) and also reading Philip Pullmans Northern Lights, and this is what got me thinking polar bears, also his description of the northern lights - "Above and ahead of them the Aurora was blazing, with more brilliance and grandeur than she had ever seen. It was all around, incandescence trembled and parted like angels' wings beating; cascades of luminescent glory tumbled down invisible crags to lie in swirling pools or hang like vast waterfalls." - just made me start along this line.
So I made a few sketches and then came up with this guy sitting in the snow looking at his favourite star, mainly because there's not much else to look at so far north, especially when its dark all the time.
Anyway, I'm pleased with how it turned out, and so I'll definately be doing more with him, and may even attempt some kind of representation of the Aurora if I dare!!
All done in PS, the majority is done with the pen tool with a smattering of brushes!

argh! damnit those bears annoy the hell out of me, but only cos they drink coke and that just ticks me off cos its just a stupid idea, especially when the penguin gives it to him - bah humbug - I prefer the cocacola train if you ask me "holidays are comin', holidays are comin'..."

I don't really have anything against 'em except that they're used to promote Coke. >>;
I mean, I like Coke. And they're really cutesome.
But srsly, what if some little kid saw a polar bear and was all like "look mommy! let's give it some soda! 8]"

teehee - so true and then they'd have a lawsuit on their hands and the next thing you know there'l be writing on the cans saying 'WARNING: Do not attempt to give to polar bears'
